MPOC would like to congratulate the IChemE-POPSIG delegation for their recent achievements in the Youth Sustainable Project competition, organised by the Delegation of EU to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat. Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG)’s project emerged as one of the Top 20 best candidates, out of the 161 participants coming from all over the ASEAN region. The competition’s objective was to ‘encourage ASEAN youths to act and bring positive impacts to society through sustainable projects in their areas of interest’.
During the competition, POPSIG presented its efforts in creating platforms for engineering students in Malaysia to learn more about the role and contributions of the Malaysian palm oil, correcting its numerous sustainability and health misconceptions, as well as the various career opportunities in the industry.
One of the key POPSIG programmes is its Educational Roadshow collaboration with MPOC, where seminars/webinars have been organised to create the awareness amongst university students on the health, nutrition, environment and social benefits of Malaysian palm oil. Since the start of this collaboration in 2019, 18 roadshows have been organised, reaching out to over 2,400 students. In addition to the ongoing Educational Roadshow sponsorship, MPOC have also sponsored the POPSIG Student Research Bursaries in 2022 to promote palm oil and sustainability related researches among undergraduate and postgraduate students who are enrolled in universities in Malaysia.
